With a team made up of players from the Central District, South won the third annual Big River Rally, defeating North 26-10.

Brian Bullock Jr. of Thomas Dale High School. Caught two touchdown passes from South team MVP Blake Bowen of Trinity Episcopal. Bowen threw three TDs, including one to fellow Trinity Episcopalian Jake Brown.
Bell’s leap on a short slant pass for a TD helped set the tone for South early in the game. The two teams traded field goals before Highland Springs’ D.J. Anderson’s touchdown pass tied the game at 10 before halftime.
But South pulled within a touchdown at 19-10 late in the third quarter, and Bullock, the first player to score a touchdown, was also the last, making a quick catch from Bowen to seal the deal for South. Sealed. Two minutes to go.
Aside from Bullock, Central Area’s players had strong performances throughout the game, with key tackles and sacks, a solid catch by Prince George’s Malik Gurley and a big toss for a 37-yard completion by Meadowbrook’s Jess Miller. .

The game started unevenly for North as they struggled but did not lose possession on the opening kickoff as the ball went out of bounds. In turn, South had its first field goal attempt blocked, but would come back for the game’s first points when Bowen connected with Bullock.
From South, Bowen completed 11 passes on 20 attempts for 158 yards and three TDs. Bell led the South in receiving with 81 yards on seven catches and two TDs. Brown had three catches for 47 yards and a TD. Gurley had three catches for 42 yards and 10 catches for 13 yards.
For North, Momeau was 16 of 31 for 208 passing yards. Lee Davis receiver Nick Risenweaver caught six passes for 101 yards.
From the Central District South team, Gurley added 43 punt return yards for 98 all-purpose carries. Meadowbrook’s Avonte Braxton had three solo tackles, including a tackle for a loss of one yard, and three assists. Meadowbrook’s Daryl White provided a sack for a loss of 10 yards, broke up a pass and finished the day with three total solo tackles. Hopewell’s Vic Figueroa had four solo tackles. Hopewell’s Maurice Greene had three tackles, including one for a loss of two yards. Thomas Dale’s Alonzie Carter had two solo tackles. Dinwiddie’s Reggie Williams had two solo tackles, one for a loss of one yard. Dinwiddie’s Cecil Parham provided a sack for a loss of nine yards. Colonial Heights’ Dequaun Payer assisted on a tackle. Perhaps the best part of any college football season is the combination of rivalries, the fans, the packed stadiums and the heated atmosphere on the field. Starting at the end of November, it’s all about the rivals – with cool trophies and funny names.

Here’s our ranking of the 25 best rivalries in college football right now and who we’d like to see start again.
These schools play for the famous Old Oaken Bucket every season. Although no program has competed for a Big Ten title in recent years, it is still one of the most storied and respected rivalries in all of sports. The Hoosiers and Boilermakers first met in 1891. Purdue holds a commanding lead in the series (74-41-6) and has won the last two meetings.
We will remain in the state of Indiana, but will fall to Division III. Every year the DePauw Tigers face the little giants of Wabash with Monon on the line. The 300-pound locomotive bell has gone to the winner of every game since 1932, although the schools first met in 1890. Wabash has a slight lead in the series thanks to wins in nine of the last 10 meetings.
Located less than 20 miles away in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, the FCS school, known simply as “The Ravelry,” began feuding with each other in 1884, making it an all-football college. It is the most played inter-school rivalry. Although Lafayette leads the series 78-71-5, Lehigh has won four in a row and nine of the last 11 meetings.
Men’s Ice Hockey: Brotherly Rivalry Set To Be Renewed
These in-state rivals went without playing each other until 1935-76, but this has been a regular matchup since 1977. While Iowa has won the last four meetings in the series, we put it on this list because both teams have reason to feel good about things in 2019. When the schools meet at Ames on Sept. 14, it could make for an unforgettable affair.
It’s always an interesting game when Paul Bunyan’s ax is on the line. However, we have a feeling things could pick up for the 2019 installment, at least on the Wisconsin side. The Badgers’ 14-game winning streak in the rivalry ended last season when the Gophers of P.J.
Obviously a big deal for the good people of South Carolina, this rivalry has been pretty close since the 2009 season. That year, Game Cox won what would be the first of five straight over the Tigers. However, Clemson returned the favor by winning five straight – and the last three by a combined 146-52.
Who doesn’t love Bedlam? Oklahoma and Oklahoma State football fans certainly do. The series has a storied history with players diving into streams to retrieve the ball, crowd-rigged games, and many high-scoring shootouts. The only thing that has dampened that streak is the dominance of Oklahoma (88-18-7). Soon has won four in a row and 14 of the last 16 games.
Miners Notch First Win
This has been called a “holy war”, due to the fact that both schools have many members who are part of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The teams even met in the 2015 Las Vegas Bowl, which became known as the “Holy War in Sin City.” Utah leads the series 61-34-4 and has won the last eight meetings.
Remember Mike Hart’s “little brother” comment about Michigan State a few years ago? That’s still true, with Michigan leading the series 70-36-15. After the Spartans won three in a row from 2013-15, the Wolverines have won two of the last three meetings and will host this year’s edition in Ann Arbor.
Sticking with the Wolverines, it’s a rivalry they haven’t had a hand in lately. The Wolverines lead the all-time series with Notre Dame 24-17-1, but the Irish have won the last two meetings. After the teams play in Ann Arbor this year, the series will go on hiatus again. It’s always disappointing that these schools don’t find a way to play each other every year.
The Apple Cup could be West Coast’s best rivalry since both schools are the best in the Pac-12. Of course, Washington has had its way in recent years during a rivalry that began in the 1900s. The Huskies have won six in a row by an average margin of nearly 22 points. However, the series’ history and longevity make it very special.

One day, the battle for Los Angeles will mean something again. We just don’t know when, both teams are far from national championship contenders, and even a bid is late game. USC had won three straight in the series until UCLA scored 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and won 34-27 last season in a game that was actually quite entertaining.
Too bad the rivalry has been on hiatus since 2011 due to the Aggies leaving the Big 12 for the SEC. There is reportedly talk of trying to revive the rivalry that began early next decade, but nothing has yet been agreed upon. Before the streak ended, the Longhorns had won three of four and were 76-37-5 all-time.
The first bad news: The backyard feud between Pitt and West Virginia hasn’t been played since 2011 when the Mountaineers won their third straight series. Here’s the good news: The rivalry will resume in 2022. Well, it’s still a ways off, but we know it’s coming and it’s going to be wild, hot and fun for more than just fans of both schools. Pitt holds a 61-40-3 lead over West Virginia.
